The June 23 Virtual Book Club will feature a book chosen by Randy Chojecki: Inheritance: A Memoir of Genealogy, Paternity, and Love by Dani Shapiro. This nonfiction book discusses the very current topic of using DNA to find relatives. Copies in different formats are available in the Erie County Library System. Many of the libraries are now open for curbside service or for entrance.

Book Summary: “In the spring of 2016, through a genealogy website to which she had whimsically submitted her DNA, Dani Shapiro received the astonishing news that her beloved deceased father was not her biological father. Over the course of a single day, her entire history–the life she had lived–crumbled beneath her. In just a few hours of Internet sleuthing, she was able to piece together the story of her conception and, remarkably find a YouTube video of her biological father–his face and mannerisms eerily similar to her own.”

With the health and safety of our community in mind, we will be hosting our annual meeting via Zoom this year. Join us on May 20th at 7pm for an evening of Club news, the election of your board officers, and a lecture from Jessica Martinez, Director of the Herbert F. Johnson Museum of Art at Cornell.

Jessica Martinez was appointed to lead the museum in 2019, and is its fourth director since its founding in 1973.

Elections are held at our annual meeting.  While the exactly date for our annual meeting is still unknown, we are moving forward with nominations to ensure a smooth process as we transition fiscal years.

On Saturday, January 11, Alumni and families met at The Teacher’s Desk in Buffalo, to sort and organize school supplies for local teachers, as part of the annual Cornell Cares Day. At The Teacher’s Desk, teachers “shop” for free for school supplies for their students in need.
