Book Club is back – Virtually!

The June 23 Virtual Book Club will feature a book chosen by Randy Chojecki: Inheritance: A Memoir of Genealogy, Paternity, and Love by Dani Shapiro. This nonfiction book discusses the very current topic of using DNA to find relatives. Copies in different formats are available in the Erie County Library System. Many of the libraries are now open for curbside service or for entrance.

Details: June 23, 2020, 7:30 PM, via Zoom

Registration: Register here to get access to the Zoom link – must register at least 15 minutes prior to the book club.

Book Summary: “In the spring of 2016, through a genealogy website to which she had whimsically submitted her DNA, Dani Shapiro received the astonishing news that her beloved deceased father was not her biological father. Over the course of a single day, her entire history–the life she had lived–crumbled beneath her. In just a few hours of Internet sleuthing, she was able to piece together the story of her conception and, remarkably find a YouTube video of her biological father–his face and mannerisms eerily similar to her own.”

From event planning, website management, budgeting, social media, and more, there’s probably a way for you to get involved with Cornell, the Buffalo community, and other alumni.

We are committed to promoting diversity and inclusion in the Cornell Club of Greater Buffalo, and will strive to build a board that reflects the diversity of our Cornell Buffalo community. Interested? Please reach out to our past president and Nominating Committee Chair, Jack Mc Gowan, ’80 (jpjpg@verizon.net) with a copy of your resume and why you’re interested in the club no later than March 31, 2019.

Elections are held at our annual meeting.  While the exactly date for our annual meeting is still unknown, we are moving forward with nominations to ensure a smooth process as we transition fiscal years.

More details will be shared as soon as we have them.  In the meantime, we hope all in our Cornell family are staying safe and healthy.
