Autumn Book Club Selections – Oct 17 & Nov 14

The October 17 (third Tuesday) Book Club meeting will be hosted by Rick Greenberg. Rick has selected a mystery, A Trick of the Light, by a Canadian author, Louise Penny. “Artist Clara Morrow is about to have a a trick of the light prestigious show of her paintings when her childhood friend is found murdered, and the finger of suspicion points to Clara. The November 14 (second Tuesday) Book Club meeting will be hosted by Buffalo gal a memoirEli Kaufman. Eli has chosen a humorous nonfiction book, Buffalo Gal: a Memoir by Laura Pedersen. “A wonderful memoir about growing up in Buffalo in the 70s and 80s. ” – from Goodreads.

There are many copies of this book in the county library system.

Great Fall Events

Sept 9th – Putting Away Summer with CCoGB- friends and family mini golf

As the summer draws to a close we’d like to celebrate with mini golf and arcade fun at Adventure Landing in Tonawanda, NY. Join us Saturday, September 9th at 2 pm for a round of 9, 18 or 36 and maybe squeeze in some pinball or Ms Pacman! Friends and family are welcome – price includes 3 hours of unlimited miniature golf and 20 arcade tokens. Stay for one round or a whole afternoon of fun!

Sept 19th – Book Club gathering – The Hundred Year Old Man Who Climbed Out the Window and Disappeared by Jonas Jonasson

7:00 PM at the home of Chris Rockwell in Williamsville, Sept 19thShe has selected a humorous book, The Hundred Year Old Man Who Climbed out the Window and Disappeared by Jonas Jonasson.

Hike the Niagara Gorge Railway Trail

The Great Gorge Railway was completed in 1895 to serve visitors to the Falls. Today the former railway bed serves as the trail on which we will be walking from the Niagara Gorge Discovery Center to the Whirlpool Rapids. See Trail #4 on the map. The trail is 1.1 miles (2.2 miles round trip), is rated as ‘Easy’, and the slope is listed as gentle. Plan to walk about 1.5 to 2 hours.

DAY/DATE/TIME: Saturday October 7, Meet by 9:30 am
GATHER/MEET at the Hiking Trails Information booth, the small building with the restrooms about 50 feet east from the entrance doors of Discovery Center.

Cornell Book Club – June 13, 2017

The June 13, 2017 Cornell Club Book Club selection is “If you were here” by Jen Lancaster, at the home of Celinda Crego. This book is a humorous novel about buying and remodeling a house. There are MANY copies of this book in the Erie County library system.

Cornell Book Club – March 14, 2017

The next Cornell Club Book Club meeting will be March 14, 2017 (2nd Tuesday) at the home of Kathy Snyder Egan in East Amherst.

Kathy has selected the classic novella, The Old Man and the Sea by Ernest Hemingway. “This tale of an aged Cuban fisherman going head-to-head (or hand to fin) with a magnificent marlin encapsulates Hemingway’s favorite motifs of physical and moral challenge.” (quote from Amazon)

In the Erie County library system, there are MANY copies of the book and audio versions.
