The next Cornell Club Book Club meeting will be February 7, 2017 (1st Tuesday) at the home of Eli Kaufman in Buffalo. Eli has selected Manhood for Amateurs: the pleasures and regrets of a husband, father, and son
by Michael Chabon. This nonfiction book is 39 connected writings. ” As a devoted son, passionate husband and above all as the father of four young Americans, Pulitzer Prize-winning author Chabon presents his hilarious and moving memories of childhood, of his parents’ marriage and divorce, of moments of painful adolescent comedy and giddy encounters with the popular art and literature of his own youth, as a theme played on instruments by the mad quartet of which he now finds himself co-conductor.” (from library summary)
In the Erie County library system, there are MANY copies of the book and audio versions.
Please let Celinda Crego (firstname.lastname@example.org) know if you would like to attend or host an upcoming Book Club meeting.

Come one, come all to watch the Cornell Men’s Hockey team host the St. Lawrence Saints on Saturday, January 21, 2017 at 7:00 pm. This is a wonderful opportunity to make the pilgrimage back to campus to watch Division 1 hockey with the best fans in the country, the Lynah Faithful.
Before the game, we will meet at The Nines at 4:30 pm to celebrate and enjoy deep-dish pizza. Afterwards, we can head up to the game. Tickets will be at “Will Call.”
A new twist this year will be the “Blue Line Club” (BLC). The BLC will take place in Newman Gym for the first and second intermission. See map here. Since we get a large contingency making the trek down from Buffalo, this will be an opportunity to network with other members of the club. It could also be a meeting point to catch up with someone on-campus as well. The cool part about this is that if they are not going to the game, they will not need a hockey ticket to get into Newman Gym. We will have light food and refreshments there.

During the 2017 “Cornell Cares Day” the Cornell Club of Greater Buffalo will volunteer at The Teacher’s Desk. The Teacher’s Desk is the store where teachers shop free for books, school supplies and teacher resources for students in their classrooms. Its mission is to distribute free school supplies to students in need, to encourage teachers and to provide purpose through volunteerism. See www.theteachersdesk.org for more information.
The Cornell team help sort warehouse inventory and stock the store shelves. The Club will provide lunch after we finish our work.
